Chapter Sixteen,
Leader of the Dark Night.
I stood up, my fist across my heart; I bowed in respect to Melinda. My eyes darkened, as I glanced at Melinda.
“Headmistress, I believe White Roses’ Stephan had told you I study and practice magic. Yes, I do but I’ve only regained my memories of my past a month ago, and you’re making me Leader of the Dark Night, and Enchantress of Lucifer’s Academy. I’m not saying I’m not honored, headmistress. I am honored, but as a sophomore and a young vampire, I don’t think I have the rights to becoming the new leader and enchantress.” I said, bowing my head.
Aaron and Bel stood up, smiling at each other.
“Headmistress, I believe what Lady Rosanna had said. But, from what I heard in Italy, Lady Rosanna risked her life to save a White Roses. Shouldn’t it be a White Rose risking their life to save a Vampire? Not that I’m implying anything. Lady Rosanna will make a fine Leader and Enchantress.” Aaron said, smiling.
“Rosanna, you’ll make a fine Leader and Enchantress, so why shouldn’t you take it up?” Headmistress Melinda asked, my stomach clenched, and I felt kind of sick.
“Because she is afraid. Afraid of what our current Leader, Amber, might to do her. She’s afraid that she might not be able to control the school, the Dark Night. But believe me, Rosanna,” Bel paused to look at me. “We believe in you, that you are the chosen one to lead the school, the Dark Night. We will lead you in this academy; we will help you, Rosanna. If you’ll give it a chance.”
My heart tightened, and Bel smiled gently at me.
“What Lord Bel had said is true, Lady Rosanna. You shall take up the position. I know herby,” As Melinda spoke, we sat down. “Lady Rosanna Salvatore, Princess of Italy, to be the next chosen Dark Night’s leader, Enchantress of the Lucifer’s Academy!” Melinda exclaimed, the school cheering, except a young redhead. She glared at me with a pair of hateful eyes. Oh no, the last thing I need is someone to hate me.
“Rosanna, will you re do the whole group of Dark Night?” Melinda asked.
“Of course.” I said, smiling.
“How will it be done?”
“King of Spade’s chair, Queen of Heart’s chair, Ace of Diamond’s Chair, Jack of Club’s Chair, and a Joker.” I replied.
“A beautiful group of four. And who will be the chosen ones?” Melinda asked me quietly.
“King of Spade’s chair will be Prince Bel, the element of water, Queen of Heart’s chair would be myself, the element of five, and Jack of Club will be Aaron, the element of earth. I don’t know about Ace of Diamond’s chair, element of fire, yet. And the Joker, element of air. When I figure it out, I’ll tell you, Headmistress.” I said, my heart gave a small squeeze, but my gut still tight.
“Okay, school dismissed, you are now required to move back to your dorms now.”
I dragged myself out of the auditorium, and slowly walked back to the apartment on my own. When someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around, and saw Amber. Her eyes lighted with fire.
“What?” I asked, looking at her.
“You stole my place as Leader of the Dark Night. Not only that, you’re the enchantress of the Academy! How could you snatch a place like this?” She hissed, making me back against the wall.
“Let me clear some stuff. I didn’t steal your place. Headmistress assigned me the position, even when I rejected it. I only practice magic, for crying out loud. What’s your problem?” I asked.
“Fine, but Aaron? Bel? Those two are the most popular guys in school, and you have both of them in your Dark Night!” Amber cried loudly, causing a few students to turn their heads. I rolled my eyes, and muttered something vulgar.
“So what? They’re enchanters. What? You have a crush on whom? Aaron? Bel? Or both?” I said, laughing.
Amber blushed a shade of dark red, which made me kind of thirsty. “So? So what? I do like Bel, so? What can you do?”
I do like Bel. A small part of me actually felt jealous.
“I don’t really care if you like Bel, because as far as I’m concerned,” I commented, as I saw Bel walking out of the auditorium with Aaron, “I don’t like Bel. I chose him because he is an enchanter. The Dark Night should only have magic based users.” I continued. I suspected that Bel heard what I said, but he looked at me with the same concerned eyes. My heart somehow cracked when I lied. I knew I’d hurt his feelings.
“Amber.” Bel said, his voice seductive.
“B…Bel!” She cried, her face blushing an even darker red.
“What are you doing out here?” he asked.
I rolled my eyes, but my heart ached badly.
“Err…Chatting with Lady Rosanna.” She lied. Oh my god, I laughed quietly.
She glared at me, but I smiled back friendly to her.
“Rosanna…” Bel said quietly.
“Yes?” I met his eyes; he was hurt, by what I said. My heart wanted me to reach out to him. He wanted me to go back to the apartment first.
“I understand.” I said, closing my eyes, before opening them to show a cold side of me.
“I’ll see you again, soon.” I said, sneering at Amber.
She glared at me again, as I turned my back to her.
I walked back to the apartments, surprised again that Georgia had helped me back my stuff already.
“Oh my, I’m so sorry.” I said, my other side revealing, throwing the cold side of me away.
“Gosh, you look so, so sad. What happened?” Georgia asked me.
I explained to her what happened. She sighed, and handed me a tissue before I spilt tears out.
“Thanks.” I muttered, staring at the floor.
“Oh Rosanna, you shouldn’t be afraid of hurting his feelings.”
A sudden emotion flowed through me. Hurt, sadness, bitterness. All came from Bel. I bowed my head, as the tears leaked out. But another emotion came. Love. But that wasn’t towards me, it was towards another person.
“Amber…” I whispered, as the tears continued to flow.
“Huh?”
“She took him.” I said, my hands covering my face, crying harder.
“Oh, my. Rosanna, please, don’t cry.” Georgia soothed.
“I need… to find… the last two… elements.” I said, standing up, wiping away the tears.
“Lets move back.” Georgia said, smiling gently.
“Okay.”
The dorms were pretty. Real pretty. Literally Gothic. Everything was the same, except more gothic, more pretty.
I placed my stuff back in my room, and walked out of the dormitory, headed to the quietest place I could find, and sat down and cried my heart out. Every single wound, every pain. Every sweet memory. All came out.
“Rosanna, are you crying?” A gentle voice asked.
“Kaori…” I whispered.
“Oh, Rosanna, don’t cry!” She said, wiping the tears away.
“It’s painful, you know that don’t you?” I asked.
“Of course I understand how the pain feels.” Kaori said, smiling gently.
“Of course, I shouldn’t be crying over such matters.” I said, laughing, wiping away the wasted tears.
“Oh, I found two more people to be Joker and Ace Diamond!” Kaori said, smiling.
“Who?”
“Raquel Liar and… Amber.” Kaori said uneasily.
“Raquel? Sure I’ve got no problem with her, but seriously Amber?!” I hissed.
“You’ve got no choice. Amber’s the only fire-base user.” Kaori whispered.
“Okay, I’ll go find them now.” I stood up, and walked to find Raquel. She was training with Lukas.
“Hey, Lukas. Mind if I borrow Raquel for a few minutes?” I asked loudly.
“Sure.” Lukas said, panting heavily.
“What’s up?” Raquel said, smiling.
“Raquel, this is an invitation to join the Dark Night as the Joker’s chair, the air-based user.”
“Wha..!? Dark Night? Gee, I thought you’d never ask.” Raquel said, laughing.
“So, I take that as a yes.” I said, laughing with her.
“Yep!” She said.
“Okay, I need you to find Amber with me.” I said, sighing.
“Oh? The former leader of Dark Night?” She asked.
“Yeah.”
“How come?”
“She’s the only fire-based user in our school.”
“I see, well then, lets go!” Raquel said enthusiastically.
I ignored the loving feeling in my chest, the love Bel was giving someone else.
“Oh, there she is.” Raquel said.
“You mind inviting her? I don’t feel like talking to her.” I said, leaning back against the wall, as Raquel walked over to Amber and Bel.
“Seriously?” She asked.
“Yeah.” I commented.
“Okay.”
“Amber.” I heard Raquel call, as Amber looked up lovingly from Bel.
The two of them exchanged a few brief sentences, before Amber laughed harshly.
“Rosanna,” Raquel called.
I walked over, as Raquel sighed in frustration.
“Oh, be a bitch. We’re inviting you to the Dark Night as the Ace of Diamond’s Chair.” I said, sighing loudly on purpose.
“Oh, golly. Should I feel honored that Lady Rosanna is inviting me to join back the Dark Night?”
I sighed in frustration, as the cold side of me threatened to leak out. I allowed it to leak out, and cover the hurt side of me.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to join back the Dark Night, Amber. Because there are many people desperate for the Ace of Diamond’s chair.” I said, laughing harshly.
“Rosanna…” Raquel said quietly.
“Please, as if there are a lot of fire users in this school.” Amber commented.
I laughed again, and Amber blushed a shade of red.
“Rosanna, if she doesn’t want to join, don’t force her.” Bel said quietly.
I looked at him with the same cold eyes I looked at Amber with.
His eyes were filled with sadness and sorrow. Something I had caused.
“Look, I don’t really care anyway. I just need someone to fill up that slot.” I said, smirking.
“Rosanna.” Raquel said.
“Yes?”
“I know this side of you. You’re just too hurt to show anything. Too afraid to show that side of you. I know you, Rosanna. I know how you feel.”
I flinched.
“I knew it. Only people who have been long enough with me know how I feel. I’m not surprised.” I said, continuing with that cold, harsh voice.
“Rosanna, it’s not too late to show your true self.”
“I don’t really care.”
“Rosanna, you’ll regret it.”
“No, I won’t.”
“All right. I’ll take up the position of Ace’s chair.” Amber finally said.
“Good.” I said, I tossed my hair, and turned around walking away. When my back was facing them, my head bowed, I began to cry silently.
“Oh, Rosanna…” Raquel whispered, her arm around my shoulder.
