“Glass is a weapon that kills any type of vampire. I mean, we can still touch them, as long as it’s not inserted into our body. If the glass doesn’t spread, and you get it out quickly, you’re safe. But once it’s in your body for more than twenty minutes, the glass’s silica spreads into your body, you’re gone. Unless some miracle happens. Like some healing power. I don’t know.” Lukas said.
But Lukas wanted to train me using my darts. Perfecting my aiming. It was really hard. To be far away from the point you want to shoot. Finally, after two hours of training.
Twat.
My dart hit the target in where it should belong. Throwing another few more, it aimed. I’ve mastered my perfect aiming!
“Rosanna, what I’m going to train you from now onwards, is to perfect your perfected aiming, and to teach you how to throw a few darts in the same time.”
Slowly, he taught me how to hold two darts using three fingers first. Shooting two darts was hard. By the end of the training, I was exhausted. I had to drag myself back to the apartments, with Raquel humming sweetly beside me. Standing outside our apartment door, was a beautiful teenager. She had long silky red hair. But her eyes although red, were mysterious like mine, but her eyes had a glistering sense of danger, and boredom. She wore a black knee length dress, with a white long sleeved jacket, and a pair of low heels.
“Princess Rosanna.” She said, bowing.
Astonished, I bowed back. Her Italian accent was light, and she looked no older than me.
“Who are you?” I asked, wondering who had father sent to look after us.
“My name’s Salvatrice. I’m here as a custodian to you.” She said.
Custodian? But I myself am one. Why do I need one?
“King Antonio sent me here, to look after you, and protect you if needed.” She said, her eyes and voice bored into mine.
“I see. Well then, come on in.” Salvatrice nodded slightly, and walked into the apartment.
Salvatrice sat down the couch, as Raquel got us glasses of water, and sat down beside me.
“King Antonio is worried about you and Rosario. He sent me here to take care of you, while Mariano is looking after Rosario.” Salvatrice said.
“Why?” I couldn’t understand. Custodians don’t have custodians looking after you.
“Because of what happened eleven years ago.” Salvatrice said.
Eleven years ago, when we were just five, a few months before the incident happened, a huge fire broke out in the castle. The fire burnt our rooms first. Large timber dropped from the ceiling. And sadly, a huge piece landed on me and Rosario.
It burnt through our clothes, and hot on our skin. And when it tore out skin apart, large amount of blood was lost. Somehow, they managed to get us out of the room. Being a Swornblood, their blood could cure anything. Father forced us to bite him, and drink enough blood. He was, yes, young and strong, but still, to feed two of us was too much. He was sick for a week. He had to stay in bed until his blood was fully recovered.
When a Destinedblood drinks a Swornblood’s blood, their system changes. Everything grows stronger, and the blood will have more Swornblood than Destinedblood’s. And people would like to do experiments on us.
A few of us, Destined, Sworn, Spirit, were captured by crazy scientists to do crazy experiments. Of course, now, Rosario and I were, too, wanted.
“But… We’re in the academy. What will they do?” I said, barely a whisper.
“They won’t do anything, but you have to be careful when you leave the academy, even when coming back after school hours. The school has extended their safety barriers until all the apartments are safe, and under school’s protection.” Salvatrice said.
I nodded, and Salvatrice said, “Well… I could use a room here… Since there are… four rooms spared.”
I smiled, and Salvatrice nodded.
She was welcomed here, of course.
Salvatrice followed us around campus, and during lessons too. I’ve got used to her companionship, but Georgina seemed slightly uneasy about it. But slowly, she got used to it. Cesarina seemed to distant herself away from us. But every time I see her, the same groggy feeling would enter me, taunting me to talk to her, but I ignored that small voice in my head. I was happy with Georgina, Salvatrice, Rosario and Raquel. And sometimes Lukas. I didn’t manage to spend time with Bel though. He was busy. But, gradually, I grew a crush on him.
It was early morning, around six, when I heard a kitten protest, and hiss. Salvatrice had already returned back to the apartments, since I insisted on some private time.
“Kayley! Oh, Kayley! Stop running!” A familiar voice cried.
A snow white kitten ran past me, as I walked down the corridors back to the apartments. One hand hugging my books, using the other, I raised my hand, palm forward, and concentrated with my eyes still on the snow kitten. A trail of scarlet red roses and green vines illuminated from my hand, chasing after the white kitten. The roses stopped the kitten, as it purred, admiring the roses. The vines wrapped itself around the kitten. It didn’t protest, it was too busy admiring the roses. I lifted my hand up, and motioned my hand toward myself. The vines mimicked the motion, and the kitten landed in my arms. The roses and vines disappeared, the kitten struggled in my arms.
“There, there. It won’t do you any good to struggle here.” I soothed.
The kitten stop struggling, and snuggled into my arms. I stroked it. But it unleashed its claw and slashed across my arm. The wound wasn’t too big, but it was deep. I hissed, but not dropping the cat.
“Ah. Rosanna. Thank you.” Bel said, walking up to me, taking the kitten from my arms.
I grimaced, then winced at the wound on my arm.
“Ah, Kayley must have scratched you.” He said, his fingers running across the wound. His fingers were warm, and gentle. It felt good against the skin.
“Bad Kayley. I thought I told you to keep still.” Bel said to his kitten.
“You’ve got one bad cat, Bel.” I said, lifting my wound to my lips, and licking the blood away.
He laughed quietly, and grabbed my arm gently. My eyes narrowed at his expression. His eyes thoughtful, his tongue snaked out, and licked the wound. A gentle moan escaped my lips, sweetness and so much happiness. But at the same time, sadness and bitterness could be felt through the wound. The feeling was driving me insane.
“Hmm…” his voice a gentle whisper.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, sounding breathless. Gosh, I wanted to whack myself.
“Nothing. Your blood is tasty after all.” He said, smirking.
I narrowed my eyes at him, his smirk grew wider. Then I noticed it.
“Oh god, not now please. Bel, you better don’t try it.” I said, my voice filled with anger rising.
“Yes, I’m going to try it Rosanna.” He shoot back.
He pushed me against the wall, restraining my struggles. I glared at him, he just smiled. He leaned into me. I could feel the warmth radiating from his body. His face nuzzled into my neck, his lips kissed my skin twice, before I felt the pain. I knew struggling with a bite would be painful. So I relaxed in his tight grip. I gasped, before a moan took over. The same sweet and gentle emotions flowed through me. He drank just a few sips, before he lifted his lips, and whispered, “Lady Rosanna, its time for your powers to be awakened.”
His lips went back to the wound, and his saliva mixed with my blood once more, and I felt a strange, and groggy. But I was too tired. I fainted.
