Chapter Fourteen.
A New breed of immortal?
----------------------------------------------------------
“Not human huh. Then what are you?” I asked, leaning against the wall, waiting for Stephan’s answer.
“I’m a White Rose.” He answered, startled, I jerked away from the wall.
“White Rose?” I asked again, I believed my ears just failed me.
“Yeap, but after all, White Roses are immortals that drink blood, but we aren’t vampires remember?” Stephan mocked.
Three types of beings exist in our chain. The Vampires, White Roses, and Seventh Treasures. Vampires are just like me. The White Roses and Seventh Treasures are slightly similar with us. They drink blood too, and are immortal, but they aren’t vampires. They don’t have the animal instincts in them, unlike us. They protect us, vampires regardless of what ranking, except the Cryptos and Swornbloods, because Swornbloods has Destinedbloods to protect them. Seventh Treasures also protect us, and they do specially hunt for Cryptos to kill.
“No wonder… But the Dark Diamonds! Did they allow you to quit?” I asked.
He chuckled, and ran a hand through his dark hair.
“The Dark Diamonds, yes they are pathetic humans. They did allow though. I didn’t have to do much, I just revealed my true self to them, and they claimed I was a spy from the vampires, which was the truth.” He laughed.
I smiled, and coughed. It was cold. Stephan removed his jacket, and placed it over my shoulders.
“Thanks.” I smiled gratefully to him.
He smiled back.
“Rosanna,”
“Yeah?”
“Your neck’s bleeding.”
“Huh?” I was surprised.
His finger touched my neck, and showed me his finger. It was bloody red.
“Oh my!” I exclaimed, forgetting about the wound on my neck. Transferring a little magic to the tip of my finger, I touched the wound, and it slowly closed.
“Magic-based… An enchantress?” Stephan asked.
“Enchantress?” I repeated that word.
“Yeah, that’s when a vampire practices Magic, and all her powers are dependent on magic. That’s an enchantress. You know, you’re practically a healer, and important person. The school
hasn’t realized that?” Stephan explained.
I shook my head.
“Oh my, you’re going to have to tell Melinda. You’re the most special being in our school now, Rosanna.” Stephan continued.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I mean, you’ll be come the next Enchantress, and second in charge of the school, and you’re
going to be the leader of the Dark Night. Seriously, Rosanna, you’re one in a million.” Stephan got all jumpy for no reason, I don’t understand. But I do know that a senior named Amber led the Dark Night, the senior council. Yes, I was a part of it, but now…
“What about Amber?” I asked after a few moments of silence.
“Amber is just a fire-based vampire, but you, are different. You control all the elements, water, fire, earth, air, and soul, and importantly, you can control any type of magic. Rosanna, just remember, you’re special. I trust you. And, you were pulled back from death.”
“Pulled back from death?”
“You were on the brink of death when your father let you drink his blood, and healed you. Rosanna, your father is a healer.”
I checked the main tower’s clock. It was only three in the afternoon.
“Wanna go hunting for Cryptos?”
Stephan laughed, and agreed.
***
“Rosanna, how do you know it’s this way?” Stephan asked, walking beside me towards the old storage houses near the habor.
“Trust me, I can feel it.” I could, I felt a sinister presence, and it was so strong and wrong, it clouded up my mind, numbing some parts of me.
Stephan was dressed for a fight. He wore a tee shirt that hugged to him nicely, showing off his muscles, and on his pants was a chain belt. On his chain belt hung his whip. I on the hand wore a black blouse, and black hot pants. My long hair tied into a neat ponytail. My box of darts hung on my waist, my trident in my hands. The heart and spade crystals sat outside of the box,
decorating it prettily.
“I don’t know, Rosanna.” Stephan complained.
“Hmm… ‘I trust you, Rosanna.’ Who told me that earlier?” I asked, smirking.
“Fine, it was mine.” Stephan sighed in surrender. I laughed gently, before stopping. I could hear someone dragging his or her feet. It was tired. I gently sniffed the air, and it felt wrong. The
smell twisted my stomach. It was a rotting smell.
“A body.” I coughed.
“I know.” He grimaced.
The sound of someone dragging its feet was too much. I walked forward, not daring to stop, until I saw someone. Definitely a male. He was dragging his feet. He was exceptionally pale, for a
human.
Before Stephan, or myself could stop it, “Hold it.” I said.
“Shit.” Stephan said.
The male stopped dragging his feet, and looked up, and I saw the most gruesome thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. He had blood red eyes, like Cryptos. But his posture… It was scary. His back hunched, and his eyes looked tired. There were actually bags under them. And his skin was all wrinkled; some parts were slightly opened, his clothes torn. I thought I’d puke.
“Young… Vampire…” he whispered, his eyes met mine, and I suppressed a shudder.
“What are you?” I asked, my voice sounded strong, even though inside, I was shaking like crazy.
“I’m… A… Blood Cryton. A… Stronger… type of…. Vampire…” He said, his voice was so strained, I could barely hear him.
“The newest breed of Vampires, damn it.” Stephan cursed under his breath.
“Newest breed?” I asked.
“Yes… We… were… Cryptos… But got… napped by the… scientists… and got… tested…” The
Cryton replied.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
“Benjamin…” He whispered.
I walked closer to him, and placed my hand on his shoulder. He smelled okay, so the stench didn’t come from him.
“I’m going to do something that might wear you out, please, be okay.” I whispered to him, as I closed my eyes.
I concentrated on the magic that was flowing through me, and I willed the magic to do something for me.
Benjamin used to be human; he had a beautiful girlfriend name Amy. No, Benjamin was good-looking, too good-looking. And he was kind and gentle. But Amy dumped him, and Benjamin got upset, he went to a bar for a drink. He got into a fight with someone, and lost. His body was left on the streets in Italy. A Destinedblood found him, and saved him. But the Destinedblood was evil. And if we’re evil, the human we change will turn into Crypto. If we’re pure, the human will turn into Destinedblood. A while later, a scientist found him, and took him through many experiments, finally, he was created. A Cryton.
My eyes opened, and I was back in the same place, the harbor.
“Are you okay?” I asked, my hand wiping away the sweat.
“Ye…ah.” He replied.
“Rosanna, you shouldn’t go so near to him.” Stephan warned.
“I’m okay, Stephan. Chill.” I said.
“Benjamin, are you…” I asked Benjamin, my voice trailing off.
He didn’t answer. He took out a knife, and stabbed my forearm.
My trident dropped with a loud clank, and my blood began to drip onto the floor. I hissed, as more blood forced its way out.
“Rosanna!” Stephan cried, his whip already in his hand.
He unleashed the whip, hitting Benjamin’s arm, and the knife stopped onto the floor.
“No! Stephan d-“ I was cut off, when Benjamin’s magic knocked Stephan out cold.
“Stephan!” I cried.
Benjamin grabbed my wrist, and licked the blood away. He tilted my head at an exposing angle, biting hard and strong. I cried out in pain. I tried to resist the pain, and it felt painful. A ripping pain, as though my neck was torn away. Painful tears streaked down my cheeks, I felt weak, and tired. Something was burning. The wounds where Benjamin’s saliva touched the wounds were burning. Hot on fire. I whimpered. He was taking too much blood. There were black spots dancing around me. The worlds seem to shake.
Is this how I’m suppose to die? Benjamin’s arms released me, and my knees couldn’t hold me up any longer. I fell onto the floor, when I heard a piercing scream. Tired, I looked at Benjamin, and realized that there were knives piercing through him. His body seemed to burn, and a few specks of silver and gold dust landed on the wound. Benjamin jerked up as his body burned, leaving only ashes and a strong burnt flesh smell in the air. I looked at the attacker, and met Bel’s worried glance, before the tiredness and black spots covered my vision and I hit the ground.
My eyes first flickered open, and my throat was practically on fire, my veins burning, needing cool water to burn out the fire. But I know water just can’t cool or put out the fire.
"Rosanna!” a familiar female voice cried.
I realized I was in my own comfortable bed. I pushed the bloodlust aside, and forced myself to feel calm.
“M…Mother?” I whispered, my voice rough, and as though I’ve been asleep for days.
“Oh my child, you worried me so much.” She said, as she hugged me.
I gasped for air, and she immediately released me.
“My child, you’re still as white as bone.” Father commented, as he sat down beside me on my bed. He stroked my hair gently, his eyes filled with concern and love.
“Dad, I thought I’d never see you… again.” I said, realizing I was crying.
“Oh, my silly, silly daughter.” He said, holding me in his arms. When I looked over father’s shoulder, I noticed Bel leaning against the wall, his eyes filled with sadness and anxiousness. I smiled gently at him, and noticed that he returned a sad smile.
I mouthed a ‘Thank you’ to him, which made his sad smile grew slightly happier. I was tired, but I really didn’t know how long I was asleep.
“How… long was I asleep?” I asked quietly.
“Four days.” Rosario replied.
“Oh, my twin.” I whispered.
“Hey.” He said, grinning.
I smiled back.
“Okay, lets clear the crowd, we should let Rosanna rest.” Father said.
Mother and Rosario muttered their Okays, and left, but Bel stayed in the room.
“Bel…” Father called from the door.
“Just a sec, Uncle.” He said.
Father nodded, and shut the door.
“Hey.” He said, walking towards me.
“Hey.” I whispered, resting my back against the soft frame of my bed.
“You seem better.” He said, sitting down beside me, his eyes reflected nothing but bitterness and
anxiousness.
“I’m sorry.” I said.
“Yeah, you’ve got a lot of stuff to be sorry for.” He said, looking on at the side lamp.
“Like?” I asked, my fingers playing with the edge of my blanket.
“We’re blood bound, you know that?” He asked, something edgy in his voice made me look up, but he was still staring at that lamp.
“Blood bound?” I asked.
“When we both drank each other blood, the other day… Our blood kind of mixed together, and we’re bounded. That bond cannot be broken.” He whispered.
Oh, I really don’t have intentions of breaking that bond anyway. My mind smiled quietly.
“You know, when we’re bonded, I can feel whatever you’re feeling, the sadness, the painfulness. The pain is almost as painful and sad as how you felt.” He muttered, quietly.
“As painful? As sad? That’s quite impos-“ I stopped, hissing at my wounds.
“Are you okay?” Bel turned to look at me, and his mask of stone shattered, his face showed nothing but concern, anxiousness and love.
Huh, love? You’re kidding.
“Y..Eah, I’m fine.” I said, closing my eyes and taking in a few deep breaths. “Anyway, it’s really impossible. I can’t be blood bond to…” I trailed off.
A young, drop-dead gorgeous, sexy guy like you. I wanted to tell him the truth, but he might not feel the same.
“But I do, look Rosanna, I’ve got to tell you something.” Bel said, his voice suddenly deep again.
I looked up at him, and he leaned closer to me. I could smell him. The smell of fresh mint, and his cool breath on my skin, his body’s heat. All I wanted to do was hold him in my embrace. “Rosa…” He began. Rosa again.
“I…” He continued, but was interrupted when the door slammed opened, causing the both of us to jump, but I ended up hissing, thanks to my wounds.
“Sorry to interrupt, but we’re going back to the academy now, Head Mistress Melinda needs every student back ASAP.” Rosario said.
