When fourth period came, I heard from Felicia, a freshmen, a new gossip, about me. I bit my lip, wondering what the gossip was about. She said it was that I was a abandoned daughter by my father, and I was an illegitimate child. Then, for some idiotic reason, my father decided to acknowledge me back as his biological daughter. Which was all crap.
I thanked Felicia, and she smiled kindly, as she skipped to class happily. Oh god, I’m so going to kill the person who started this rumor. I thought to myself. I walked to class, and people were whispering.
“Rosanna!” A voice called.
I turned, and saw Stephan running to catch up with my pace.
“Hey.” I greeted him.
“Hey, err, listen… About the rumors.”
I cut him off by putting my hands up in the air.
“Look, the rumors about me being an illegitimate child is-”
“No, no. Rosanna. Listen. There’s another rumor going on. About how your mother had an affair. You and Rosario weren’t twins. They said that Rosario was the biological son of King Felico and Queen Rozetta. And you were an illegitimate child that Queen Rozetta had with another man outside.” Stephan explained.
“Do you have any idea who started it?” I asked.
“Oh, I sure do. The haughty princess, Rebecca, and her group of idiots.” Stephan said.
“Oh? Do you know where they are now?” I asked.
Stephan looked as though he didn’t want to tell me, but something on my face made him struggle in defeat.
“Down the stairs, the chemistry laboratory.” Stephan said, sighing.
I smiled, and thanked him, before walking down the stairs. Fifth period was taught by Mrs. Hernandez, my Spanish teacher. She loved me, actually, all the teachers adored me. No one actually really cared if I attended class because I passed each test and exam with flying colors, and behaved well in their classes, except after school hours, and skipping lessons.
“You should have seen the look on her face. And get this. She’s not even Royal. She doesn’t have a place in the line even though her father and mother are the King and Queen of I don’t know what country Vampires.” I grit my teeth together, as I stepped out of the shadows, laughing sarcastically.
The group turned, and glared at whoever had interrupted their gossip. But when they saw me, some of them looked embarrassed, or smug. But Rebecca was smirking.
“Hey! At least I know who my parents are, not like some people.” I said.
Apparently, the adult vampires had to keep their children here at a young age, of perhaps three to five until they graduate from Immortal Academy’s University. The Academy consisted of Pre-School, Middle school, High school, College and then university. Many parents were too busy to come back to school to visit their children. Either they were busy guarding heavy places, Sworn bloods, or like my parents, taking care of a Country. Or, they just don’t want their children. For some saddest cases, the parents just… suicide.
Rebecca flinched, but she continued.
“My mother’s the custodian of King Antonio Salvatore, king of Italian vamps.” Rebecca said, smirking.
God, she’s such a liar.
“For your information, King Antonio is my father, and Queen Rozetta is King Antonio’s custodian. And my name’s Rosanna Salvatore.”
The group behind Rebecca laughed out loud.
Rebecca looked astonished.
“But… But King Antonio is such a powerful king, and so darn important. How can he have a daughter like you?” Rebecca said, her voice still standing strong.
Quiet shuffling could be heard behind me, and the girls’ eyes widened. A hand came on my shoulder as I turned my head, and saw Rosario standing behind me.
“Rosario.” I said, saying his name like it was the most precious thing on earth.
“Rosanna.” He said, smiling. Then, he turned to look at Rebecca and her group of girls. Half of them were already smitten by Rosario’s hot looks, and the resemblance between the both of us. Rebecca sneered.
“If I’m not wrong, Rebecca Smith. You insulted King Antonio and Queen Rozetta.” Rosario said our parents name with high respect.
“I did not. I merely said that Rosabella couldn’t be King Antonio’s daughter.” Rebecca muttered, her voice getting softer.
“And my dearest sister who did nothing to you?” Rosario said, his voice still calm. But I could hear anger rising.
“No.” Rebecca, paused, taking in a deep breath.
“Rosabella humiliated me in front of the whole school before. I merely wanted to get revenge. Is that so hard?” Rebecca said, her smirking face replaced with sadness and anger.
“Rosario, is something wrong?” A familiar voice said behind.
Rosario and I tilted our heads back, and I narrowed my eyes at Bel. Some part of me told me to hate him because he was dangerous, and he killed a lot of people before. And I found myself agreeing to it.
I could hear Rebecca’s breathing speed up, and many gasps from the group of girls.
Rosario looked at Bel, and bowed ever so slightly. If I wasn’t looking at him, I probably didn’t notice. “No, there is nothing wrong. What are you doing here?”
“Mm… Let us just say I heard a commotion down the laboratory.”
“But your school’s nowhere near here.”
“It isn’t. But I was heading back after a short chat with Georgina.”
“Excuse me, but we’re settling something here.” Rebecca’s quiet voice spoke up.
I coughed, and looked at Rebecca, and slowly smiled.
“Dear Rebecca, I apologize for humiliating you in front of the whole school before, because I won the Winter Queen during Winter dance.” I said, still smiling.
Rebecca was dumbfounded.
She stepped forward, raising her hand.
She was about to slap me, but my hand was quick enough. Her fingers inches away from my face, my fingers tightening my grip against her wrist. She flinched, but her hand still attempting to slap me.
Pulling her closer, I whispered, “I dare you to.”
I released her wrist, and she stumbled back.
The group of girls with her was shocked, and speechless.
“Next time Rebecca, look who you want to humiliate again.”
I turned my back, and walked back up the stairs again, Bel and Rosario chuckling, while the girls surrounded Rebecca, checking if she was okay.
After the confrontation with Rebecca, it was already lunch. I walked through shortcuts, and saw Cesarina talking to Georgina, smiling and laughing. Georgina looked uncomfortable, but nonetheless, she still chatted with Cesarina. I attempted to walk past them, but Cesarina saw me, and grabbed me by the wrist, spinning me around to face the two.
“Hey. I heard you picked a fight with Rebecca.” Georgina said, her face serious.
“Yeah, whatever. I mean, it’s just an argument.” I said.
“I wish I could have joined too.” Cesarina said, laughing.
Georgina’s seriousness disappeared, and she laughed too.
“Hey. There’s Raquel. I’ll catch up with you guys later!” I said, waving to Raquel.
Raquel waved back, when she saw Cesarina, and her face darkened a little.
“Bye!” Georgina and Cesarina said.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked Raquel.
“Nothing… It’s just Cesarina. You know, I can see people’s aura. While you see their souls, thanks to your charisma?” Raquel asked.
I nodded, and she continued.
“Cesarina’s soul is so dark, I can’t pick up a reading. And it’s like, something is blocking me out of her mind. It’s so scary. I think you should warn Georgina to keep a distance from Cesarina.”
“Oh, I didn’t even try to look at her soul. But sometimes when I’m with her, I feel really good. I don’t why. But when the first time I met her, this,” I said, pointing to the black silver diamond cross still on my neck, “kind of glowed. As though it was warning me or something, I don’t know. I’ll keep my distance. But I’ll try to fish some information. Even if it risks my life, or friends.” I said, smiling gently.
Raquel frowned a little, before Lukas came up to talk to us.
“Training, after lessons. We need to strengthen you two as fast as we can.” Lukas said, sitting down beside Raquel.
“Why?” I asked.
“I don’t know. Orders from Headmistress.”
Headmistress again. Ugh. I hate her.
I nodded, and went to grab some lunch before the stupid bell rang.
Literature class flew past in a flash, and I realized Rebecca hadn’t said anything about our quarrel. Classes ended ten minutes earlier, because Mr. Felix said he didn’t have anything to teach for the period, hence releasing us early.
I walked to Raquel’s Italian class, and waited for her outside. When the bell rang, Raquel was one of the last to leave the class.
“What took you so long?” I asked, yawning.
“I was searching for my pen. Turned out it was hidden under the teacher’s desk.”
“I see!” I said, as I laughed.
